Whether you're a seasoned golfer or just starting out, these courses provide unique challenges and scenic views. Let's explore six standout courses in the area:

  1. Falls Road Golf Course – Potomac
    Nestled on 150 acres of former farmland, Falls Road is the county's first public golf course, established in 1961. The course features a mix of parkland and tree-lined holes, offering a fun round for golfers of all abilities. With four sets of tees, generous fairways, and large greens, it's
    particularly welcoming for beginners and juniors. The 22-stall driving range is lighted for evening practice, and the clubhouse provides a relaxing space to enjoy a meal. 

  2. Needwood Golf Course – Derwood
    Located adjacent to Lake Needwood, Needwood Golf Course offers an 18-hole layout that is both challenging and playable. The course is well-conditioned and features a 9-hole executive course ideal for beginners or those looking to sharpen their short game. Notably, Needwood is recognized as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, emphasizing environmental stewardship. The clubhouse includes a full-service snack bar and a patio overlooking the course.
    Golf lessons and clinics are available for all skill levels. 

  3. Sligo Creek Golf Course – Silver Spring
    As Montgomery County's oldest 9-hole course, Sligo Creek offers a challenging layout with hilly terrain, making it a favorite for walkers. The par-3 holes are particularly demanding, providing a test for golfers of all levels. The clubhouse features a pro shop and a full-service snack bar. Additionally, Sligo Creek hosts the popular Sligo Summer Music Series, offering free live music on Friday evenings from June 7 through October 18 from 6-8pm. 

  4. Northwest Golf Course – Silver Spring
    Designed by Ault & Clark in 1964, Northwest Golf Course boasts a 27-hole layout with five sets of tees, accommodating golfers of all abilities. The championship tees stretch over 7,000 yards, making it the longest course in Montgomery County. The driving range includes 41 stalls, with 20 covered and heated for comfort, allowing for year-round practice.   5. Laytonsville Golf Course – Gaithersburg
    Laytonsville Golf Course is known for its player-friendly par-71 layout, which is easily manageable for novices yet challenging enough for experienced golfers. The course features superb conditions and a variety of practice facilities, including a driving range, putting and chipping greens, and a bunker for sand play. The clubhouse grill provides food and beverages, and the pro shop offers a selection of golf merchandise and equipment. Call and ask about

  6. Crossvines Golf Course – Poolesville
    Situated in the scenic Potomac Valley, Crossvines Golf Course offers a picturesque setting on 380 acres for golfers. The course is known for its generous landing areas and large, rolling greens, providing a relaxed yet engaging experience. Crossvines offers world class practice facilities including a two acre short game practice area, and a range with both grass and artificial teeing areas. The clubhouse features a pro shop and a full-service snack bar.
